Corporate Social Responsibility

Our eco-responsible approach

A methodical and transparent approach

At Jeci, we know that digital technology has a real environmental impact and that making a genuine commitment means measuring it first. That’s why we have started a process to measure the environmental footprint of Pristy, our document management solution. This process is under construction — we rely on open standards and open source tools to build a solid foundation before publishing results.

Our approach follows the ISO/IEC 21031:2024 standard (Software Carbon Intensity — SCI), the RGESN v2 framework (General Framework for Ecodesign of Digital Services, published by Arcep, Arcom, ADEME and DINUM in May 2024), and the 115 Best Practices of the Responsible Digital Design Collective.

Our measurement stack

To obtain a complete view of Pristy’s environmental impact, we are deploying a measurement chain covering the entire application lifecycle, as part of the VTE Vert mission (BPI France):

  • Scaphandre — measurement of energy consumption for each Docker container on our infrastructure, enabling identification of the most energy-intensive components
  • Boavizta API — calculation of the carbon footprint of our server manufacturing
  • Playwright/Puppeteer — automated audit of Pristy pages, measuring page weight, number of requests and DOM complexity
  • Nginx logs — estimation of WAN network consumption based on analysis of data flows between our servers and users

This multi-tool approach aims to cover the full environmental impact of Pristy, from servers to end-user terminals.

The SCI metric: a global measurement

The main metric we have selected is SCI (Software Carbon Intensity), expressed in gCO2eq/user/month. This metric is calculated across three complementary tiers:

  1. Servers: manufacturing footprint and energy consumption of our infrastructure
  2. Network: energy consumption related to data transfers
  3. User terminals: manufacturing and usage footprint of equipment used by the organisations using Pristy

This comprehensive view will enable us to identify the most relevant optimisation levers and prioritise our ecodesign actions.

A first estimate is being consolidated — we will publish results once the measurement process is validated.

Our concrete commitments

Beyond measurement, our approach is built around:

  • Working to publish our results transparently, to contribute to the emergence of standards in the sector
  • Progressively optimising our applications as our measurement results consolidate
  • Prioritising eco-responsible hosting providers based in France and Europe: OVH, Scaleway and Hetzner
  • Training our teams in the principles of ecodesign and responsible digital practices
  • Sharing our methodologies and tools with the open source community, once our measurement process is published

Social

Jeci offers its employees a flexible working environment, adapted to individual situations: partial or full remote work, flexible hours to support work-life balance. Internal meetings are held by video conference, reducing travel. Business travel is done by public transport (train) as a priority. Carpooling is encouraged for journeys not covered by public transport.

The team is composed mainly of permanent employees. Jeci regularly welcomes apprentices and interns. The team is stable over time, currently with an equal number of women and men.

In 2025, Jeci recruited an apprentice as part of the VTE Vert programme, supported by BPI France. Their mission: measure and reduce the environmental footprint of Pristy applications, and contribute to drafting CSR commitments.

Skills development is encouraged and training is regularly offered, in line with technical developments and individual needs.

Jeci favours the purchase of refurbished equipment (via Back Market) or highly repairable devices (Framework laptops) to equip its staff.

Governance

Jeci is an SARL (private limited company) founded in 2013, based in Fauverney, near Dijon. Decisions are made collectively: topics are discussed as a team, every voice counts. The absence of a pyramidal organisation is a deliberate choice — our clients notice it: fewer contacts, fewer back-and-forth, more efficiency.

Our development process is based on Scrum, which promotes transparency, traceability and regular deliveries.

Our contractual commitments are underpinned by general terms of service and specific conditions negotiated with each client. We prioritise pricing transparency and the use of free software, with no dependency on a proprietary vendor. Reversibility is a fundamental principle: our clients are never locked into a solution.

We favour suppliers and service providers engaged in a CSR approach. This criterion guides our choices of hosting, printing and hardware (see Other commitments).

CSR is a topic regularly discussed internally; its formalisation is in progress (company CSR document, DUERP update, SMART actions).

Other commitments

Jeci actively contributes to the open source ecosystem. Our most visible contribution: the Alfresco / Collabora Online connector, developed in partnership with Collabora and published under a free licence. Other projects are available on our GitHub: object storage connectors, Kafka integration, Alfresco extensions.

Jeci has been a member of April since 2021, an association for the promotion and defence of free software in France. Since 2024, we have been members of PLOSS-RA, the network of free digital companies in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

A Burgundy-based company, Jeci works primarily with French local authorities and public sector organisations. This territorial focus is a choice: less travel, more proximity, a better understanding of our clients’ challenges.

Our supplier choices reflect our commitments:

  • HostingOVH and Scaleway: French datacentres, renewable energy, server refurbishment. Scaleway: EcoVadis Gold 2024, validated SBTi targets (iliad group). Hetzner (Germany) for some services.
  • Large-format printingLa Maison du Kakémono (since 2025): Made in France, PEFC/FSC-certified wood, PVC-free and VOC-free canvas, visual replenishment and recycling programme.
  • Standard printingOnlineprinters: ImprimVert, FSC, PEFC and EcoVadis certified. SBTi 2030 targets.
  • IT equipment — Back Market (refurbished) and Framework computers: designed for repairability and longevity.
  • Trade shows and events — reusable stand backdrop, flyers with QR codes (no paper stock), practical and durable merchandise.
